Meeting Minutes: June 2019

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for coming to the late June/early July Community of Practice Meeting. We had quite the turnout this meeting, with more than 20 individuals joining us both in person and through Skype! Here is what went down in the meeting.

Introductions: Jamie from Sauder introduced 2 of their new co-ops to us as well as medIT – welcome and thanks for joining us!

DIY Working Group: Michael from UBC Studios talked about how June was a record month for workshops! With 5 workshops that focused on writing a Creative Brief, Scripting and Storyboarding, Production, Podcasting, the Adobe Suite we had a pretty full house for each one! The DIY working group consisting of (LFS, Marcomm & UBC Studios)  is hoping to continue this for each semester, with an upcoming plan to create one in the fall. If you are interested in being part of this, please contact Michael (Michael.sider@ubc.ca) for more details!

Volumetric Video Presentation/Working Group: Zac from MedIT gave a presentation on volumetric video! He described what Volumetric video is, how it works and what their unit has done so far using Kinect data overlayed on with traditional media! A new working group that focuses on Photogrammetry and Volumetric video has been created – if you are interested in joining this working group please let Zac (Zac.rothman@ubc.ca) know! Michael from UBC Studios also shared that they’re also piloting a project where they took photogrammetry from skulls of animal specimen and are attempting to integrate the 3d scans into VR/AR.

New shared List of Recommended Vendors and Equipment. Saeed from UBC Studios suggested that we create a list of recommended (or not recommended) list of vendors that can be shared with the UBC Media Community. Andrew from UBC Studios will be setting this up – currently a quick confluence space has been setup. If you have never used confluence before, please login using your CWL: confluence.it.ubc.ca . (The login doesn’t look like your normal CWL login page, but it IS based off of your CWL.) Afterwards please send me an email, and I can add you on to the Private Page. if you are having trouble with accessing confluence, please email UBC IT Support.

It was also unanimously decided that the next CoP meeting will be in September!.

Cheers,

Andrew
