Who we are.

“There is immense power when a group of people with similar interests gets together to work toward the same goals.”

-Idowu Koyenikan

Who are we?

The UBC Digital Media Community of Practice offers a space for UBC staff who are involved in production of digital media to come together and share ideas and resources. From new demonstrations of technologies to guest speakers, the idea of a Community of Practice is for individuals to share their work, ideas and observations to others in the community. We have had staff from departments present about their newest innovations in 360 video and VR as well as simple yet interesting looks on how different forms of media impact the way we think. Since there are individuals of different backgrounds, many specialists in different areas can also share their best practices, and enlighten other departments and staff around campus, empowering them to do more with the resources that we have one campus.

Where are monthly meetings held?

Meetings are held once every month at the UBC Vancouver campus with individuals from UBC Okanagan video conferencing in. The location is listed in the footer of this website, at UBC STUDIOS. Individuals at UBC Okanagan may contact Rosemary of UBC Studios – Okanagan to join us via video conferencing.

What are working groups?

We are now introducing a working group system, where members of the community of practice work in smaller groups on given initiatives, such as the DIY project. Another example is the past 2017 Digital Media in Education conference that was successfully held in the Okanagan. If you have an idea for a new Working Group, please do not hesitate to contact us at ubc.studios@ubc.ca, and we will set up a space for you on our site, and contact/invite individuals that may be interested to join your team.

The UBC Community of Practice is always looking for more members to join. If you are a UBC staff/faculty member and are interested, contact us under the get in touch tab shown in the menu above. (Please note that mailing lists are updated once per month before the next meeting.)

We look forward to meeting you – see you at the next Community of Practice meeting!
