Meeting Minutes: February 2021

Meeting Minutes: February 2021

Thank you for joining us in our February CoP Meeting, and Duncan for facilitating the meeting – it was great to meet all of you and learn about your home office setup.

Here is a brief overview of what was discussed:

Accessibility: Throughout the past year, many members of our community has been exploring ways to ensure that the content that is produced is accessible for everyone. Some items that were discussed:

  • Captioning services such as AI Media (Live transcriptions) or Rev (Subtitles/Captions for Video)
  • ASL via external companies, and recommendations to find out more from the UBC Centre for Accessibility
  • A toggle program that switches to monitors to different colorblind settings to view whether content is accessible for everyone.
  • Through helpful guides and resources such as: https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/

Virtual Fieldtrips: Virtual fieldtrips are also needed more than ever, with the shift to online learning
Done through Matterport Virtual Scans, 360 videos and photos
Live fieldtrips through Zoom and more.

Podcasting: We also saw the rise of podcasting and audio focused content
A tool suggested was using Zencastr.com as a way to record audio from Zoom meetings directly, which would be useful if there were issues with connectivity. Currently has a free option.

These topics continues to be something that can be further developed and explored – continue the conversation on our Microsoft Teams Channel!
